Quick Overview

The Smeg coffee maker has a lot of great features. Such as having multiple brew options, having a unique design, and is built out of high-quality materials. As well as being eco-friendly with a removable coffee filter.

Overall, it’s a great higher-end coffee machine. Now, you can definitely get a drip coffee machine at a lower price, but you are also sacrificing quality and maybe even design.

Overall, Coffee Belly recommends the Smeg coffee maker to anyone who wants a unique looking and high-quality coffee machine to add to their kitchen or wherever they brew coffee.

Key Features

Brew Options

It comes with multiple brew options. You can program it to auto-start later, set it to brew 4 cups of coffee, and it has a 12 or 24-hour clock option to fit your preference.

It’s great it gives you options on when and how much coffee to brew. You can also brew up to 10 cups of coffee with the Smeg coffee maker!

One stand out feature that separates this coffee maker from the rest, is its retro design. It’s unique and looks like something out of the 1950s.

It’s also made with anti-slip feet, a user-friendly control panel, and a water level indicator. As well as a 10 cup capacity glass carafe. It also comes in different colors. Cream, pastel green, red, pink, stainless steel, white, pastel blue, and black, to fit any kitchen decor.

It’s also made fully out of metal, no plastic, so it’s durable and built to last a long time.

The Smeg coffee maker comes with a reusable filter. It has a handle so it’s easy to pull out when you’re ready to clean it and it can replace paper filters.

You can use paper coffee filters with it, but you don’t need to, and it’s better for the environment not to!

Warming Function

Smeg has recently updated its coffee maker with a new and improved warming function that can keep your coffee warm after you brew it for up to 60 minutes.

It also has an anti-drip function which will let you pour yourself a cup of coffee while it’s brewing and won’t spill everywhere. That way you won’t have to wait until it’s done brewing the entire pot to enjoy your coffee, and you’ll be able to easily avoid a mess from it spilling out.

Easy Cleaning

This machine is relatively easy to clean, it even has a descaling light that lights up when it needs to be descaled. The parts you need to clean by hand are easy to remove and the process of descaling it is pretty simple.

Pros & Cons

What We Like

It’s Metal

The body of the coffee maker is made out of metal, instead of plastic. We really like that design because it’s built to last you a long time. Unlike plastic, which doesn’t typically last a very long time with normal use.

Many Functions

We also really like that there are a good amount of functions with the Smeg coffee maker.

You’ll be able to program your coffee to start brewing at a specific time, choose between 4 or 10 cups of coffee, how intense you want the aroma of your coffee brewing to be and even adjust the water hardness.

Removable Coffee Filter

We also think it’s great the Smeg coffee maker comes with a reusable filter. From experience, we know they are easy to clean out in between use and are a much more environmentally friendly option.

Using a paper coffee maker every day can add up quickly. Also, we rarely find coffee grounds in our coffee, it doesn’t let hardly any grounds, if any at all, get through. Of course, if you swear by your paper filter, you are able to use it in the coffee maker.

We also think the design is a pro because it is so unique and different looking than other coffee makers. It’s retro, sleek, and stylish. It also comes in a variety of colors that will look good in just about any kitchen.

What Can Be Improved

Coffee Can Not Be Hot Enough

If you are someone who likes their coffee scalding hot, this might not be the coffee maker for you.

The coffee comes out hot, but not piping hot and you may need to put it in the microwave to get it to that temperature.

So, if you are someone who likes their coffee very hot, this might not be the coffee maker for you.

Customer Service Could Be Better

There are complaints online about the customer service. Customers are saying that it is outsourced to a third party company who are apparently pretty difficult to deal with.

So, if you run into any issues with the machine, it may be a bit of a pain to get it fixed.

The Smeg coffee maker is perfect for anyone who wants a high-quality coffee machine with a unique look to it. It’s metal body is built to last and it has a variety of different customizable functions to fit all of your needs.

However, it is not the machine for anyone who wants a cheap coffee maker that they may need to toss out after a year or two. Or someone who wants a basic looking machine that will blend in with the rest of your appliances.

The Smeg coffee maker is definitely at the high-end price-wise for drip coffee makers. You can definitely get a well-working machine that is a lot cheaper.

However, this one is made out of higher quality materials and has a lot of functions, however, you are also paying for the unique retro design that’s not as easy to find elsewhere.

Final Verdict

We recommend the Smeg coffee maker to anyone who is looking for a higher-end and unique coffee maker. We think the pros outweigh the cons with the Smeg coffee maker and think it’s a great machine!

It’s not for everyone, but for those who want something with a bit of pizzaz in their kitchen that is built to last a long time, this is a great machine!
