The Breville Duo Temp Pro is a great beginner-friendly espresso machine and one that we recommend. The price is comparable to other higher-end beginner espresso machines and this one has a large variety of features to it that will make pulling the perfect espresso shot easy every time. It’s a great machine and one that is perfect for any beginner!
Key Features & Benefits
Precise Espresso Extraction
The machine uses a low-pressure pre-infusion which is where the puck of coffee grounds is gently soaked with water in the portafilter prior to brewing. This process will make it so the flavors are extracted evenly and will make your espresso taste balanced and delicious every time.
Pressurized and Non-Pressurized Baskets
This machine comes with both pressurized and non-pressurized baskets. If you aren’t familiar, a pressurized basket has two walls and the inner bottom of the basket has holes but the outside bottom of the basket has one single hole. The espresso collects at the bottom of the basket and is forced out using pressure through the single hole.
Using a pressurized basket is great for beginners or those without the proper espresso grinder because it makes it so you’re able to pull a good shot of espresso regardless of the grind size of the espresso. Non-pressurized baskets are just a typical normal filter. both filters can also be easily stored in the machine for when you aren’t using them
The auto-purge function is great for not having to wait for your machine to cool down from steaming your milk to brew your espresso.
When you are done steaming your milk, the machine will automatically take cold water and send it through the thermal coil to cool it down so you can brew your espresso right away and won’t have to wait for it to cool down on its own.
Breville is known for the thermal coil which you can find in a variety of their products. The thermal coil makes the machine heat up very quickly so you won’t have to wait for very long before you can pull your espresso shot.
Large Water Tank
The water tank on this espresso machine is 61 ounces and has a spot for a filter, like the charcoal Breville filter. This is a fairly large water reservoir and will make it so you won’t have to refill the tank very often.
Traditional Steam Wand
The built-in milk steamer is a traditional steamer with one arm and one hole. This steamer makes it easy to steam your milk at home into a micro-foam texture that will enhance the flavor of your espresso and always provide a consistent silky and creamy texture to your milk. Along with steam, the wand also can dispense hot water with the flip of a switch.
Pros & Cons
This Breville machine is a great beginner espresso machine for coffee drinkers. It has a beginning price point that is comparable to other espresso machines, however, it does have some added features that other machines don’t have.
Makes Brewing Easy
Along with the variety of features that we previously listed, these features make it so pulling an espresso shot is somewhat easy and won’t be very difficult for coffee lovers of all skill levels.
Features such as the pre-infusion, pressurized and non-pressurized baskets included with the machine, an easy-to-use foaming wand, the automatic purge function that cools down the thermal coil so you can brew right after you steam your milk, and more.
Can’t Brew and Steam Milk at the Same Time
One con to this machine is that you cannot steam milk and pull your espresso at the same time. But that’s pretty common for machines around this price range, if you want to be able to do both at the same time you’ll spend more money, sometimes twice as much as this machine.
Goes into Auto-Shutdown Mode Quickly
The machine auto-shuts down a little bit faster than other espresso machines. It doesn’t give you very long after you’ve pulled your espresso shot for it to go into that mode, which may be annoying for some users.
The steamer isn’t very fast on this machine, which could be a con for some people but could also be a pro. Since it is a slower steamer it would give you more control which you may prefer.
Who Is This Espresso Machine Best For?
The Breville Duo Temp Pro is great for beginners. It has a variety of features, more than other beginner espresso machines you’ll find on the market. It also makes it fairly easy to pull the perfect espresso shot every time. Overall, if you are a beginner looking for an espresso machine, this one would be perfect for you.
For a high-quality beginner espresso machine, this one is around the same price range as others that are also higher-quality and beginner-friendly.
The added benefit of this machine compared to others is that it has a few additional features, plus, it’s a Breville machine that has a reputation as being high-quality and long-lasting.
