What Is a Latte?

So what even is a latte? For those who don’t know it is a coffee drink that is made with espresso and hot steamed milk and frothed milk (milk that is foamy like a cloud).

The coffee and steamed or frothed milk are typically blended together. Unlike other coffee drinks, such as a cappuccino, which has distinct layers to it.

What You Will Need

-Espresso or strong brewed coffee

-Your milk of choice

-Coffee mug

-Spoon

-Jar with a lid

How to Make a Latte Without an Espresso Machine

Step 1. Make the Espresso

The first step to making a latte without an espresso machine is to brew your coffee. Once it’s done brewing, make sure to pour it into the coffee mug you want to drink your latte out of.

Step 2. Make Your Milk

To make your milk frothy you will want to fill up a jar about halfway, put the lid on, and shake the jar hard for about 60 seconds or until the milk has become a thick foam.

You will then want to microwave the jar with the lid off for 30 seconds. You will see some of the milk will remain a foam and some will be a liquid. The milk in liquid form will be your steamed milk.

Or, you can put your milk into a cup, microwave it, and use a whisk to froth your milk. The foam will rise to the top of the cup similar to if you used a jar and microwaved it.

You can even use a milk frother for this step. Click here to check out our review of the 8 best milk frothers! Milk frothers can be affordable, easy to use, and a great way to quickly whip milk if you want a machine to do it for you!

Step 3. Pour

Once your milk is heated, you will want to pour it into your mug of espresso. When doing so, take your spoon and hold back the foam and pour in as much milk as you want in your coffee. Blend. When you’re done add the foam on top of your coffee.

Step 4. Optional: Add Flavor

If you want, at this point you can sprinkle some spices in your drink to add a bit of flavor. Such as cocoa powder, cinamon, nutmeg, etc. Or you can even add vanilla extract or other flavors as well.

Step 5. Enjoy

The last step is to sit back, relax, and enjoy your delicious latte!
