Quick Overview

In short, the KitchenAid Burr Grinder is made out of high-quality materials, is simple to use, and is built to last. It’s a high-end burr grinder but it isn’t for everyone. If you are someone who wants a high-end machine that will be displayed on your counter (it’s a big machine and isn’t easy to store in a cabinet) then this is a great grinder for you. It’s not if you are looking for something you can travel with or can easily store away in a cabinet. Coffee Belly recommends the KitchenAid Burr Grinder because of its quality, consistent grinding, and straightforwardness. We think it’s a great machine.

Features

15 Grind Settings

You’ll be able to get the perfect consistent grind every time with the grind settings ranging in half-step increments from 1-8. You’ll be able to easily grind anywhere from very fine for espresso to coarse for French press.

Stainless Steel Cutting Burrs

The burrs are stainless steel so they will be very durable and powerful when grinding up your beans. The burrs also turn at an rpm of 450 which minimizes friction and heat which will preserve the flavor of your coffee beans.

Another benefit of using a burr grinder is the consistency you’ll find in your grounds. Burr grinders are also higher quality and built to last longer, especially the KitchenAid Burr Grinder since it is built with stainless steel cutting burrs.

7 oz Glass Bean Hopper and Grind Jar

The hopper and grind jar can both hold up to 7 oz and are made of glass to minimize the grounds from “clinging” from static electricity produced when grinding beans. It also makes for easy cleaning and reducing build-up. The grind jar simply unscrews from the rest of the machine and the hopper has a press-fit lid which makes it a painless process to fill it.

Pros

Built to Last

The KitchenAid Burr Grinder is built with solid high-quality materials that will last you for years. You won’t find plastic on this machine, it’s all metal and the hopper and bean catcher are made of glass.

We especially like that the grinder is made with stainless steel so you don’t have to worry about your burr grinder being made out of cheap material that isn’t going to last you very long.

Consistency

Since it uses burrs it produces a consistent grind on a consistent basis. Once you find the perfect grind setting for your coffee, you can expect it to always grind it that exact way, you won’t find different sizes of particles in your grounds.

Easy to Use

This machine is relatively easy to set up and use. The grinder comes apart easily when you want to fill it up or take it apart for cleaning and the grind settings are easy to adjust.

Cons

Needs Regular Cleaning

Some people may not be happy with the fact that you will have to regularly clean the grinder. This is true with most coffee machines if you want it to continue to work like new. But it is definitely something to keep in mind before purchasing if you are someone who is looking for a machine that you don’t have to clean very often and have it work well.

Thin Glass Hopper and Grind Catcher

At Coffee Belly we like the glass hopper and grind catcher, we think it is a classic look that bodes well with the overall appearance and feel of the machine.

However, there have been complaints by other coffee junkies that say they’re easy to break. It’s something to keep in mind, especially if you think you’ll have a hard time gripping them. If you do end up breaking one, you can always replace it with a mason jar that has a thicker glass or buy a replacement from KitchenAid.

It’s Large

If you are looking for a grinder that is little and easy to store in a cabinet, this is not the grinder for you. It’s big and you’ll have to have room for it on your counter. It’s 5.90 x 10.00 x 9.80 inches and sits at 9.9 pounds.

Who Is It Best Suited For?

The KitchenAid Burr Grinder is best suited for anyone who wants a solid burr grinder that is going to last them for many years and want to take their coffee game to the next level.

It is not for anyone who is looking for a cheap little grinder they can easily store in a cabinet or bring with them to travel such as in an RV. It is also not for anyone who does not want to regularly clean their grinder.

This grinder has to be cleaned on a regular basis for it to continue to work like new.  It is a serious grinder that will take up counter space but is also made out of high-quality materials that, with regular cleaning, will last you for quite some time.

Pricing

The KitchenAid Burr Grinder is definitely on the higher end for burr grinders in terms of pricing, but it’s also on the higher end of the market in terms of quality.

It’s a bit pricey compared to other burr grinders but it’ll pay for itself when you don’t have to replace it every couple of years if you take care of it. It’s sturdy, high-quality, and we think the price is fair for how great this machine is.

Final Verdict

We recommend the KitchenAid Burr Grinder for anyone who wants a grinder that will last them for many years if they clean it on a regular basis and anyone who wants to take their coffee game to the next level.

You’ll be able to easily create a range of consistent grinds and keep the integrity of the flavor of your beans with the design to reduce heat friction with the burrs and in the grind jar. We think it is a high-quality well-designed machine and recommend it to anyone who is on the fence about purchasing it!
